Here are some of our most Frequently Asked Questions.

If you have a question that isn’t listed here, please contact us.

Q. How many people can be seated in the limousine?

A. In each limousine there is room for six people in the rear compartment and room for one in with the chauffeur.

Q. When should I start making the funeral arrangements?

We recommend contacting us soon after your loved one has passed away. We will liaise with the GP, hospital doctor or coroner to ensure the necessary paperwork is prepared, we can also advise you on registration and the documents you will need. While a date and time can’t be set until the death has registered, early contact will ensure you and your family have the support and advice you need.

Q. How do we know what to do at the funeral?

On the day of the funeral the Funeral Director is there to help and guide you, your family and friends. If you are unsure of anything please ask the Funeral Director.

Q. Can the family carry the coffin?

If family and friends would like to carry the coffin, please let the funeral director know at the time of making the arrangements. While this is normally safe to do so, some church buildings have steps or slippery paths to consider, so there may be times when we would advise against it.

Q. Can we visit our loved one to pay our last respects?

Yes, by prior arrangement, family and friends are welcome to visit their loved one in the Chapel of Rest. Once your loved one is ready for visitors, you will be contacted and offered a convenient appointment to visit.

Q. Can our loved one be brought home?

If you would like your loved one bringing home prior to the funeral, please discuss this with the funeral director at the time of making the arrangements. The funeral director may want to visit the house to check access. While it is normally okay to bring a loved one home, either the day before, or on the morning of the funeral, we do need to undertake a risk assessment first and will advise if for safety reasons it won’t be possible.

Q. Can we choose what music is played at the Crematorium?

Yes, you can have a piece of music as you enter the chapel and one as you exit. You may also wish to have a piece of music to listen to for reflection, or have a hymn to sing along to. The funeral director will make all the arrangements on your behalf, and CD’s are not normally needed.

Q. Can we request donations to charity?

Yes. If donations to charity are requested in lieu of flowers, we will collect donations and either return them to the family after the service, or forward them to the charity of your choice. Donations can also be made via an online ‘Donations & Tributes’ page which we can set up on your behalf.

Q. Does the coffin remain in sight throughout the funeral service at the crematorium?

Yes. After the service has ended, the coffin does not move until all relatives and friends have left the Crematorium Chapel. At some Crematoria there are curtains that close around the coffin, or the coffin can be lowered, but this is only done at the request of the relatives.

Q. Is each cremation carried out individually?

Yes. The identity of the coffin name plate is checked by the Crematorium Attendant before it is placed in the Cremation Chamber. This only holds one coffin or casket at a time.

Q. Do I get the cremated remains back that belong to me?

Yes. Once the cremation has taken place, the cremated remains are removed and left to cool before being place in an ashes box. This box is clearly identified as to whose remains they are. A cremation certificate will be provided and should be kept safely.

Q. How soon can we have our loved one's cremated remains?

On your instruction, we will collect your loved one’s cremated remains from the crematorium on your behalf; this is usually done two working days after the cremation has taken place. Once collected, these can be held safely at the funeral home while awaiting a decision on their final resting place, or returned to you soon after.

Q. What can I do with the cremated remains?

There are various options to consider, including having the ashes scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium, interring them into a new, or existing cremated remains plot, or full burial plot in a churchyard or cemetery; this will allow you to have a headstone or memorial on the grave and will allow for other family to be interred into the same grave in the future. Alternatively you may decide keep the ashes at home in a special urn or casket, or you may scatter them in a special place

Q. How will I know who attended the funeral?

If requested, we can provide a member of staff to take the names of mourners as they enter the church or crematorium; alternatively, attendance cards can be provided for mourners to fill in, these will be collected after the service and returned to you.
