If the deceased person had a pre-paid plan – then the cost of the funeral will either be partially or fully covered (depending on the type of plan taken out).

We will require the plan provider’s details along with the reference/certificate number. We will confirm the requirements as set out in the plan, discuss any amendments you may wish or need to make and make you aware if any additional payments are required.

If the deceased person left a Will – there will normally be an appointed executor who will deal with the estate with guidance from the solicitor. In these circumstances, the funeral invoice will normally be paid for from the deceased’s estate. We will need to contact the solicitor to obtain authority and check relevant details and forward the final invoice directly to them for payment.

If the deceased person DID NOT leave a Will – then the next of kin will normally be able to gain access to money in the deceased’s bank account in order to pay the funeral invoice. We would recommend you contact the bank to discuss this with them. They will need a copy of the Death Certificate which is obtained after the death has been registered, along with the funeral estimate or final invoice. The bank will normally either pay the money directly to us, or issue a cheque made out to us.

If the deceased person had no money to leave – then responsibility for the funeral account will normally fall to the person arranging the funeral. They might pay from their own saving, with a credit card, with the help of family and friends, or with a specialised funeral loan.

If the person arranging the funeral does not have the financial means to pay for the funeral, and they are in receipt of certain state benefits, then they might be able to apply for a Funeral Expenses Payment from the government. If awarded, this payment will help towards the costs of a simple funeral but may not cover everything.
